Unfolding  Missing Elements  Of  Present  Crusade Against Corruption

Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption was at its zenith in last few weeks. The people from all walks of the life -the oldies and youngsters- all came to gather at Ramlila ground exchanging swords not only with corrupt forces but also battling with rough weather. The most remote corners in country were buzzing with activities related with Anna’s tirade against corruption. The likes of us who were not part of freedom struggle came to have an idea about sort of activities which took place in the Raj Era India.

The most interesting part of the crusade is that not many are aware of the clauses related with Jan Lokpal Bill but that has not come in the way of people’s association with this movement. They are on the streets against one of the most corrupt regimes in Indian political landscape. Interestingly, the battle between virtue and vice once again started from a ground, Ramlila Maidan, devoted to the victory of good over evil! It’s another thing that one pays a heavy price when one is fighting with negative forces. However, the resurrection of “Dharma” needs to be done at any cost. One of the reasons why people are on the street is that they are fed up with system that shows utter disregard for their being and causes associated with them. So they felt that it’s the right time to protect the “Dharma” (Religion) from the clutches of ” Adharma” (irreligion). It’s to be noted that the word Dharma differs from it’s English counterpart “Religion”. In Hinduism it’s related more with “personal obligations, calling and duties” and primarily means supporting or holding the order of things with help of natural laws.

The dreams always remain dream if there are no proper steps taken to convert them into a reality. The dreams remain dream if we fail to associate with the cause in a real way. One needs to know the enemy quite well before coming face to face with it on the battle ground. The Congress party has a checkered past. It’s more poisonous than the most venomous snake roaming on planet earth. About it Sri Aurobindo stated during the freedom struggle that ” I say, of the Congress, then, this, – that its aims are mistaken, that the spirit in which it proceeds towards their accomplishment is not a spirit of sincerity and whole-heartedness, and that the methods it has chosen are not the right methods, and the leaders in whom it trusts, not the right sort of men to be leaders; – in brief, that we are at present the blind led, if not by the blind, at any rate by the one-eyed.” His words have, sadly, come true. Though I hate the attitude of Winston Churchill against India and Indians, he was quite right in reading the working style of Congress calling it “cruel and wicked negligence”. In fact, he believed that departure of the Britishers meant ” India will fall back quite rapidly through the centuries into the barbarism and privations of the Middle Ages”

In modern India the common man is dictated by the likes and dislikes of unholy nexus between bureaucrats and corrupt political leaders. The corrupt political leaders become more dangerous when they get support of brand like Congress. A brand that promotes slavish mentality and sycophancy towards the party supremo. To the world outside India might be a successful democracy but the people who are aware of the real face of Indian political landscape know quite well that politics in India is dominated by muscle-power and illegal flow of cash. Politics in India is to ensure the most incompetent a luxurious life for ages not only for themselves but for their future generations as well. That’s why Swiss accounts and accounts in foreign banks are so popular in India! The “angoota chaap” (illiterate) or semi-literate (the so called B. A. or M. A. degree holders) people contest elections with the help of dubious elements and on gaining the seat reward these very dubious elements. That’s the way democracy in India functions! The likes of Indira Gandhi move a step further and start treating the constitutional bodies as their private property. In this great Indian political nautanki ( drama) the fate of common people is to get exploited at hands of strong people on one pretext or another.

The Anna’s movements has seen huge participation of people because it has provided a ray of hope to common people who feel that now they have got chance to tame the corrupt monsters. Though I know quite well that it’s quite a an amateurish way to tackle the corrupt forces, it’s still a good sign that people are now beginning to realize the power latent in them. I am aware of the fact that bringing into effect another law or, for that matter, to set up an another constitutional body is not the ideal way to sabotage the corrupt forces. However, to make a beginning or take a small step towards the goal is always a safe approach than deadly stalemate. Anna’s movement has done the same thing. It has initiated a process. It has made people realize that democracy is people-centric and not ruler-centric.

The problem is that Indian political class has lost its sheen. For people there is huge lack of reliable and dynamic political party. So even if they come on streets and compel the present regime to step down, the absence of alternative makes the whole effort pass though a black hole. We have BJP. It appeared as alternative to Congress but once in power it failed to retain the difference between it and its enemy Congress. In it’s short association with power politics it gave way to same ambiguity exhibited by Congress in its long rule over this nation! We have the Leftists. The party that’s comprised of derailed intellectuals, whose love for common people made them further away from the common people, to such an extent that in most parts of the world it came to lose its identity altogether. Like always the positive happenings in this nation has made them an anxious and worried lot. These dirty Leftists rats have now come out of their holes and trying to make a dent in the people’s movement. They are busy coining stupid phrases in articles published in their various mouthpieces. They term the whole outburst as reactionary response of middle class.

The Leftists also harbour the illusion that Anna’s movement has defined the corruption in a very limited way. It’s also afraid of the fact that the whole movement has presence of right-wing political parties and thus it has got moral right not to be part of this movement. However, this has been the salient feature of Leftists: To enjoy the fruits of someone else’s labour! Most of the articles penned by their arm chair intellectuals are full of insipid details not worthy of taking into cognizance by any sane mind. It’s very clear that Leftist, who live under the false impression, that they are real representatives of people on street, in reality, have utter disregard for the thinking of the common people. The superiority complex which is present in Leftist intellectuals has made Leftist ideology part of yellow pages of worn out books. It’s better I leave their babbling with them and discuss other significant features of movement triggered by Anna Hazare.

One of the main drawbacks of Hazare’s initiative is that it rests upon shoulders of people with dubious achievements. If you go back in past, you would find that followers or disciples have always led to demise of powerful movements or institutions. Unless the movement gets controlled by right minds with proper vision and perfect line of action, it would be nothing more than a wishful thinking to imagine about a better future. You have likes of Swami Agnivesh who are no better than Mir Zafar!! I can very easily see that Anna Hazare has failed to see through the trap set by cunning minds within the Congress, especially Kapil Sibbal.

However, if this initiative fails to brings desired result it wouldn’t downsize the Herculean efforts of Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal. Lack of desired result should not be perceived as failure of Anna Hazare’s movement. It needs to be understood that total elimination of corruption is no less than utopia. It’s not that easy to wipe out corruption without changing the system in a big way. It’s absurd to think that a certain law or certain body with a “big boss” like head would altogether end the corruption. I am convinced that unless “we, the people of India” give to way better ideals in natural way, it would be sheer stupidity to rest hopes on any new institution. I am certain that if we do not become conscious individuals, the Lokpal would meet the same fate as we have seen of premier government bodies like Election Commission and Central Vigilance Commission (CVC ). If we have desire to live a life resting on the show of money, it’s hard to assume that corrupt practices would ever come to end. One also needs to analyze that it’s we the people who are really responsible for the rampant corruption. It’s we who promoted wrong people and ended up sending wrong people as our representative in various government bodies be it Parliament or Village Panchayat.

Anyway, let’s not weaken the will to change. It’s more than enough that people have realized that their active participation would alone make their representatives more responsible towards their rights. One hopes that efforts of people, now on streets, would lead to better changes. One needed a beginning. A way has now been shown by Anna. One hopes we would find many such leaders in future to make this movement attain its logical culmination. Let’s not be disappointed over not getting results in proportion to the expectations. जो भी वास्तव में सोच रहे है वो देख सकते है कि कौन कौन से खतरे अन्ना को नीलने के लिए खड़े है.  जैसा कि जे पी के साथ हुआ बहुत संभव है वो अन्ना के साथ भी हो . उसकी वजह यही है कि अन्ना सांपो के साथ चल रहे है जो कभी भी पलट कर डस सकते है. कमजोरी भीड़ में तो है ही जो कि सदा जोश से काम लेती है होश से नहीं पर सबसे बड़ा दोष नीतिगत है.  नीतिगत इस मामले में है कि जिनके हाथ में वास्तविक कमान है उनका लोकतान्त्रिक मूल्यों से कोई ख़ास सरोकार नहीं है. अब जब लोकतान्त्रिक प्रक्रिया से आप को कोई ख़ास लगाव नहीं है तो ज़ाहिर है ये उम्मीद रखना कि भविष्य में आप लोकतान्त्रिक मूल्यों का सम्मान करते हुए आप  मर्यादित आचरण कर पाएंगे मुझे नहीं लगता.

सीधी सी बात है मजबूत ईमारत कभी कमजोर नींव पे नहीं खड़ी हो सकती. काबिल लोग जाने क्या सोचते है ये तो वो जाने  पर मै तो इतना जानता हू कि यहाँ नींव बेहद कमजोर है. कोई मुझसे कह रहा था पता नहीं वो कितना सच कह रहा था या झूठ पर उन्होंने कहा कि जो सदस्य लोकपाल की ड्राफ्टिंग में शामिल है वोही महाभ्रष्ट की श्रेणि में आते है. एक महाभ्रष्ट अग्निवेश नाम के पाखंडी को तो मै भी जानता हू. जब इस तरह के संदिग्ध आचरण वाले आपके नीतिगत फैसलों में दखल देने का अधिकार है तो समझ में नहीं आता कि लोकपाल के सन्दर्भ में लिए जा रहे फैसलों का वास्तविक स्वरूप क्या होगा.  मुझे तो जॉर्ज ऑरवेल के द्वारा रचित “एनिमल फार्म ” की याद आ रही है जिसमे सत्ता के मद में सूअर नियंत्रण से बाहर होकर तमाम कुकर्मो में लिप्त हो जाते है. ऐसा तभी होता है जब आपकी शुरुवात ही गलत तरीकें से हो. तकलीफ तो यही कि हम एक तूफ़ान को जन्म तो दे देते पर अक्सर इसकी पृष्ठभूमि में कमजोर स्क्रिप्ट होती है. अंतत: जनता ठगा सा महसूस करती है और एक नया भ्रष्ट तंत्र खड़ा हो जाता है. जनता एक बार फिर अपने विश्वास के टुकड़े टुकड़े होता देखती रह जाती है.

चूहे के पीछे बिल्ली और बिल्ली के पीछे डागी और उसके पीछे कोई और तो ऐसे तो कोई फायदा नहीं होगा. कुल मिला के चीखना चिल्लाना तात्कालिक रूप से जायज हो सकता है पर सही जीत चिंतन, मंथन और उसके समुचित क्रियान्वन से होती है. और मुझे लगता है इसका नितांत अभाव है अन्ना की आंधी में. बात ये है जब तक हम खुद व्यक्तिगत स्तर पे ईमानदार नहीं होंगे तब तक कोई भी संस्था कुछ नहीं कर पाएगी चाहे वो सुपर लोकपाल ही क्यों ना हो.  इस आन्दोलन कि दो सबसे बड़ी कमिया है. एक तो ये कि ये भी अभी तक जो जन लोकपाल का मोटा मोटा स्वरूप समझ  में आ रहा है वो तो यही है कि एक ही संस्था में असीमित शक्ति होगी और इसकी जवाबदेही किसके  प्रति और किस स्वरूप में होगी ये बिल्कुल अनिश्चित है. यही इसका सबसे बड़ा दोष है.  दूसरा सबसे मूलभूत फर्क ये है कि जनता की अपेक्षाए और उनकी अपेक्षाए जो इस जन लोकपाल नाम का तीर छोड़ रहे है उसमे बहुत फर्क है. जनता  तो शायद यही समझ रही है या उसें महसूस कराया जा रहा है कि जन लोकपाल एक ऐसी जादू की छड़ी है कि घुमाया और सब समस्या ख़त्म.

बात ये है कि इसके स्वरूप को लेकर  इसके बनाने वाले और जनता की सोच में बहुत फर्क है.  जनता एक व्यापक पैमाने पे परिवर्तन की आस को लेकर सडको पर है और वोही जनलोकपाल एक ऐसी संस्था है जिसे और संस्थाओ की तरह ही लोकतान्त्रिक दायरों में रहकर ही समस्या का निदान करना  है.  इतनी उम्मीदें एक संस्था से पालना कितना सही है और भविष्य में अपने बिखरी उम्मीदों के साथ इस संस्था से कैसे तादात्म्य रख पायेंगे ये सोचने वाली बात है. मेरे कहने का तात्पर्य ये है कि अगर जनता खुद अपने आचरण को पहले सुधार कर फिर क्रांति क्रांति करती सडको पर तो समझ में आता कि जन लोकपाल वास्तव में अलादीन का चिराग साबित होता. बिना व्यक्तिगत स्तर पे सुधार के हम सोचे कोई संस्था आकर हमारा कल्याण कर देगी बिल्कुल वाहियात की बात है. एक ढोंग है.  एक महा पाखण्ड है और कुछ नहीं. समझ में नहीं आता कि जनता को  सडको पे उतारने वाले जनता को इतना चराते क्यों है. क्यों नहीं अपने मूल उद्देश्यों को भली भाँती जनता के सामने और उनके सामने नहीं रखते जिनसे वो आग्रह रखते है अपनी बात मनवाने का. और यही पे आके सारी क्रांति और जोश का सत्यानाश हो जाता है. भ्रम या अँधेरे में रखकर या रहकर या अति उत्साह में उद्देश्यों से अनजान रहकर स्वर्णिम भविष्य की उम्मीद रखना मै नहीं समझता बहुत जायज है. 

बहरहाल जनता सडको पर है और ये हर्ष की बात है. ये भी सुखद है कि सत्ता के नशे में चूर लोगो को उनकी औकात समझ में आ गयी. मनीष तिवारी और कपिल सिब्बल जैसे लोगो को कम से कम इतना समझ में तो आया कि जनता से और जनता को लेकर चलने वालो से कैसे “जी” लगाकर बात करनी चाहिए. मुझे कोई शौक नहीं आसमान में उड़ते गुब्बारे में छेद करने का. सो चलिए इस आंधी में हम भी बहते है इस उम्मीद में कि आंधी वैसे तो कभी अच्छा फल नहीं देती पर क्या पता इस आंधी  से विध्वंस के बजाय कुछ काम का निर्माण हो जाए. पर हा फर्क यही है कि  आंधी में बहते हुए भी मैंने अपनी समझ को बहने नहीं दिया. सो ये सोचने पे मजबूर हू कि विश्वास को बार बार  टूट कर जुड़ते हुए देखना या इसकी कोशिश करना बहुत ही तकलीफदेह होता है. इस दर्द को सहज रूप से आत्मसात करना खेल नहीं. और ये खेल अफ़सोस है कि संवेदनशील भोली भारतीय जनता के साथ बार बार खेला जाता है.

चाँद को छूने की तमन्ना की
आसमा को जमीन पर माँगा 
फूल चाहा कि पत्थरों  पर खिले..
काँटों में की तलाश खुशबू की 
आरजू  की कि आग ठंडक दे 
बर्फ में ढूंढते रहे गर्मी 
ख्वाब जो देखा, चाहा सच हो जाये 
इसकी हमको सजा तो मिलनी थी 
सच तो ये है कुसूर अपना है..

Sri Aurobindo played an instrumental role in shaping the destiny of this nation. It’s a great coincidence that India achieved freedom on the day when he manifested as human being on this planet earth. As a scholar and poet we find him penning a masterpiece like “Savitri’. As a revolutionary we find him engaged in explaining the masses true meaning of liberty. However, he did not wandered on this planet merely to help India attain freedom. In him and mother we could very well see the reflection of bond that held Radha and Krishna together. Let’s devote some time in company of his thoughts and vision. At least, this much we can do for this person who made immeasurable contributions for Bharat Mata and her children.

India believes in and has the key to a psychical world within man and without him which is the source and basis of the material. This it is which Europe is beginning dimly to discover. She has caught glimpses of the world beyond the gates, her hands are fumbling for the key but she has not yet found it. Immortality proved and admitted, it becomes easier to believe in God. The spiritual message is that the universal self is one and that our souls are not only brothers, not only of one substance and nature, but live in and move towards an essential oneness. It follows that Love is the highest law and that to which evolution must move. Ananda, joy and delight, are the object of the lila and the fulfilment of love is the height of joy and delight. Self-sacrifice is therefore the fundamental law. Sacrifice, says the Gita, is the law by which the Father of all in the beginning conditioned the world, and all ethics, all conduct, all life is a sacrifice willed or unconscious. The beginning of ethical knowledge is to realise this and make the conscious sacrifice of one’s own individual desires. It is an inferior and semi-savage morality which gives up only to gain and makes selfishness the basis of ethics. To give up one’s small individual self and find the larger self in others, in the nation, in humanity, in God, that is the law of Vedanta. That is India’s message. Only she must not be content with sending it, she must rise up and live it before all the world so that it may be proved a possible law of conduct both for men and nations.

There is not the slightest doubt that our society will have to undergo a reconstruction which may amount to revolution, but it will not be for Europeanisation as the average reformer blindly hopes, but for a greater and more perfect realisation of the national spirit in society. Not individual selfishness and mutually consuming struggle but love and the binding of individuals into a single inseparable life is the national impulse. It sought to fulfil itself in the past by the bond of blood in the joint family, by the bond of a partial communism in the village system, by the bond of birth and a corporate sense of honour in the caste. It may seek a more perfect and spiritual bond in the future. In commerce also so long as we follow the European spirit and European model, the individual competitive selfishness, the bond of mere interest in the joint-stock company or that worst and most dangerous development of co-operative Capitalism, the giant octopus-like Trust and Syndicate, we shall never succeed in rebuilding a healthy industrial life. It is not these bonds which can weld Indians together. India moves to a deeper and greater life than the world has yet imagined possible and it is when she has found the secret of expressing herself in these various activities that her industrial and social life will become strong and expansive.

Nationalism has been hitherto largely a revolt against the tendency to shape ourselves into the mould of Europe; but it must also be on its guard against any tendency to cling to every detail that has been Indian. That has not been the spirit of Hinduism in the past, there is no reason why it should be so in the future. In all life there are three elements, the fixed and permanent spirit, the developing yet constant soul and the brittle changeable body. The spirit we cannot change, we can only obscure or lose; the soul must not be rashly meddled with, must neither be tortured into a shape alien to it, nor obstructed in its free expansion; and the body must be used as a means, not over-cherished as a thing valuable for its own sake. We will sacrifice no ancient form to an unreasoning love of change, we will keep none which the national spirit desires to replace by one that is a still better and truer expression of the undying soul of the nation.

We reject the claim of aliens to force upon us a civilisation inferior to our own or to keep us out of our inheritance on the untenable ground of a superior fitness. While admitting the stains and defects which long subjection has induced upon our native capacity and energy, we are conscious of that capacity and energy reviving in us. We point to the unexampled national vigour which has preserved the people of this country through centuries of calamity and defeat, to the great actions of our forefathers continued even to the other day, to the many men of intellect and character such as no other nation in a subject condition has been able to produce, and we say that a people capable of such unheard-of vitality is not one which can be put down as a nation of children and incapables. That field and opportunity can only be provided by a national government, a free society and a great Indian culture. In Integral Yoga, God-realisation means merely standing at the shore of the vast sea of Consciousness. The fire-pure change of the inner and outer life means swimming in that sea. Manifestation of the Divine on earth means returning Home after having crossed the sea, bringing with you the Golden All.

It is not a dream of God but His Decree that Heaven and earth must fall supremely in love with each other. He wants their marriage to take place sooner than immediately. Earth feels that she is inferior to Heaven. Heaven feels that he is superior to earth. And because of their mutual hesitation, the day of their marriage is kept in abeyance.

Integral Yoga has made a significant choice. It wants not only to see and feel the conscious evolution of life, but also to embody a fully harmonised life of Matter and Spirit.

An Integral Yogi is he who sacrifices his life to become a bridge between earth and Heaven. He has foregone Heaven; he uplifts earth.

The aspirant in man is the cross-bearer. The Yogi in man is the crown-bearer.

To say that Yoga is the realisation of God is not to say all. Yoga is the living union with God by self-affirmation and self-abnegation.

2. Svagatam Krishna

3. Nirvana Shatkam

These verses composed by  Sri Adi Shankra are source of perennial inspiration for me. I also come to remember that these verses were source of inspiration for  the revolutionaries fighting against the British Empire during the freedom movement.  These verses do  make one shatter the extreme love which we have  for the human body.

4) I have neither merit (virtue), nor demerit (vice). 
I do not commit sins or good deeds, nor have happiness or sorrow, pain or pleasure.

I am none of the triad of the observer or one who experiences, the process of observing or experiencing, or any object being observed or experienced.

5) I do not have fear of death, as I do not have death.

5.  Rudrashtakam

Another very popular Indian Shiva stuti. One that I have always heard and sang since childhood. It’s been written by Saint Tulsidas.

nijam nirgunam nirvikalpam niriham

the omnipotent and all pervading Brahma, manifest as the Vedas.

I don’t know yoga, prayer or rituals,
But everywhere and at every moment, I bow to you, Shambhu!
Protect me my Lord, miserable and afflicted as I am 
with the sufferings of birth, old-age and death.

This eightfold hymn of praise was sung by the Brahman to please Shankara.

He is white like camphor and the very incarnation of mercy and compassion,
The only good thing in this world, wearing a king cobra as a garland

कब तक कसाब और अफज़ल पुलाव बिरयानी खायेंगे हमारे पैसो की?

गोधरा का सच एक झूठ है!

गोधरा का सच एक झूठ है!

ये  अक्सर खल जाता है कि बहुत सुलझे हुए लोग भी  जब शिष्टतावश गलत को खुल के गलत नहीं कह पाते. तब या तो वो चुप्पी साध लेते है या फिर एक चतुर सा वाक्य बोल कर मामले को घुमा देते है. ऐसे तो कोई  सुधार  होने से रहा. अगर हम खुल के गलत को गलत भी ना कह पाए तो कोई कैसे ये सोच सकता है कि वक्त पड़ने पर आप कोई मजबूत कदम उठा लेंगे? चलिए सब क्रान्तिकारी नहीं हो सकते. सब भगत सिंह के चेले नहीं बन सकते गृहस्थ आश्रम की बाध्यता के कारण पर ये कहा कि अक्लमंदी है कि आप गलत का मुखर होके विरोध भी ना दर्ज करा सके साफ़ स्पष्ट शब्दों में.

 अक्लमंदी ये भी नहीं कि हम सब सांप जहरीले नहीं होते तो लगे आस्तीन के सांप पालने!  जहरीलें सांपो को दूध पिलाना ये कौन सी नीति है भाई ? क्या जहरीलें सांपो को दूध पिलाने से वो पालतू हो जायेंगे या काटना छोड़ देंगे ? सब सांप जहरीलें  नहीं होते तो हम जहरीलें  सांपो को गले में लटका के घूमे भोले बाबा की तरह? मतलब आम जनता गाज़र मूली की तरह कटे और कसाब और अफज़ल हमारे ही पैसे पे मौज करे? क्या सन्देश आप दे रहे है भाई ? नतीजा यही होगा कि भीड़ अपने हिसाब से न्याय करेगी और फिर गेहू के साथ घुन भी पिस जायेंगे. उस वक्त  रेसनैलिटी की दुहाई लोग  मत ही दे .आज अन्ना हजारे या बाबा रामदेव के मांगो को ये कहकर खारिज किया जा रहा है कि ये संवैधानिक  प्रावधानों के विपरीत है. मै पूछना ये चाहता हू सत्ताधीशो से कि उन्होंने ऐसा आचरण ही क्यों किया कि संविधान के भीतर से रहकर काम करने वाली व्यवस्था से लोगो का विश्वास ही उठ गया? अब क्यों लगता है लोगो को कि संविधान से इतर व्यवस्था ही न्याय दिला पाएगी? अब बताईये केंद्र के सब बड़े मंत्री भ्रष्टाचार में लिप्त है पर वे कुछ दिनों के लिए जेल में जाकर मौज पानी लेकर बाहर निकल आते है. कई प्रदेशो के “मायावी मुख्यमंत्री सत्ता की  माया में लिप्त  होकर हर तरह का कुकर्म कर रहे है पर सब खामोश है कि बिल्ली के गले में घंटी कौन बांधे? वोही पे एक मामूली से कर्मचारी जो कुछ रकमों कि हेरफेर के खातिर पकड़ लिया गया उसके पीछे पूरी सरकारी मशीनरी हाथ धोके पीछे पड़ जायेगी जैसे इस वक्त रामदेव के पीछे केंद्र सरकार पड़ी है. लो बेटा तुम हमारी पोल खोलने चले थें अब हम तुम्हारा बैंड बजा देंगे क्योकि हम सत्तासीन है.
 
इस वक्त कुछ सिरफिरे लोग हिन्दू आतंकवाद के नाम से “शैडो बाक्सिंग” कर रहे है ? काहे?  इसीलिए कि एक तो असली तस्वीर छिप जायेगी और फिर सत्ता के मद में अंधे लोग अल्पसंख्यको के पास जाकर वोट मांग सके. इसीलिए बाहरी बड़े लोगो से हम हिन्दू आतंकवाद पर चर्चा तो करते है पर इस्लामी आतंकवाद के बढ़ते कदमो पर मौन साध लेते है. उसी अमेरिका से हम हिन्दू आतंकवाद की चर्चा करते है जिसने इस्लामोफोबिया के जड़ में जाकर अपने देश में हर वो कानून लागू किया जो उसे इस्लामी आतंक से मुक्ति दिला सके. अपने दुश्मनों को घुस के मारा चाहे वो कही भी छुपे हो. हम केवल हिन्दू आतंकवाद का झुनझुना बजा रहे है और कसाब और अफज़ल को बिरयानी पुलाव खिला रहे है जेल में!  हमारे यहाँ के बुद्धिजीवी तो बस ये साबित करने तुले है कि अगर कुछ है तो हिन्दू आतंकवाद बाकी सब इस्लामोफोबिया है!  अरे भाई  इस्लामोफोबिया का उदय क्यों हुआ इस पर सोचिये बजाय इसके कि लोग इस्लामोफोबिया से ग्रस्त क्यों है अगर इस्लामोफोबिया जैसी चीज़ वाकई में कुछ है तो!  इस फोबिया के आधार में कोई इलूसनरी कारण नहीं बल्कि कटु सच्चाई है. जरुरत है इन कारणों की ईमानदारी से अवलोकन करने की और हो सके तो दूर करने की कठोर कदमो से  बजाय सच्चाई से मुह मोड़ने की. ये वक्त “पोलेटकली करेक्ट साउंड” होने का नहीं कठोर कदमो का है एक वास्तविक समीक्षा के साथ. जो इस्लामोफोबिया से बचने की दुहाई देते है वो भूल जाते है कि अमेरिका या मुंबई या विश्व के हर कोने में हो रहे हमले एक सच्चाई है कोई सपना नहीं.

 

 आप देखिये कि आतंकवाद निरोधक  कानून सख्त करने के बजाय और ढीला कर दिया गया. पोटा लागु होने के बाद लोगो ने शोर मचाना कर दिया गया कि भाई  बड़ा दुरूपयोग हो रहा है. मामला फिर टाय टाय फिस्स हो गया और पोटा  पिट  गया मतलब हटा लिया गया. अब भाई लोग मतलब कानूनविद एक बार फिर सठिया गए है. अब फिर कह रहे है कि सख्त कानून की सख्त  जरुरत है अगर हमे आतंक का जड़ से सफाया करना है तो.  तो यही नौटंकी हमारे यहाँ होती है. ढंग का काम इस देश में कतई नहीं हो सकता. एक आधार प्रोजेक्ट बना है. बड़ा प्रचार हो रहा है कि एक जादुई नंबर मिलेगा पर भाईलोग ये बताने को तैयार नहीं कि जिस देश में डाटा थेफ्ट इतना आसान है उस देश में किसी के ख़ास डीटेल्स लीक नहीं होंगे और उनका दुरुपयोग नहीं होगा.लेकिन इससें  आपको क्या आपको जादुई नंबर मिल रहा है कि नहीं. नंबर लो और खुश हो जाओ बस.  ज्यादा भेजा फ्राय मत करो ये कहना है माई बाप मतलब सरकार का. 

लेकिन हमारे यहाँ उलटी गंगा बहती है.  नेशनल एडवायजरी काउंसिल नाम कि एक विचित्र संस्था है.  इसने एक विधेयक का मसौदा का मसौदा तैयार किया है जिसका सार ये है कि  दंगे हमेशा बहुसंख्यक फैलाते है और पीड़ित पक्ष केवल अल्पसंख्यक होता है.  अब अगर वोट बैंक सॉलिड रखना है तो ऐसा विधेयक आ जाए  कोई आश्चर्य नहीं. मतलब गुजरात में गोधरा करने वाले ने जो किया वो कुछ नहीं था बस केवल जरा सा गरबा नृत्य था. हां जो दंगे हुए गुजरात में  वो वीभत्स थे अपनी सेकुलर देशी विदेशी मीडिया और सरकार दोनों के लिए लेकिन गोधरा नहीं. ऐसा मै नहीं ये विधेयक कहता है. अब तीस्ता  सीतलवाड़ जिन्होंने इस मसौदे को तैयार  किया है जैसो से क्या उम्मीद रख सकते है. ये जनाब जाहिर शेख  झूठी गवाही के मामले में सुप्रीम कोर्ट के द्वारा जम के  लताडी जा चुकी है और दोषी करार दी चुकी है. आश्चर्य मुझे ये सोचकर होते है कि ऐसे  संदिग्ध लोग एक महत्त्वपूर्ण संस्था में कैसे शामिल हो सकते है ? क्यों नहीं हो सकता. बिनायक सेन जब प्लानिंग कमीशन में हो सकते है तो तीस्ता क्यों नहीं? अब क्या कहें ? जब दरिन्दे  हिफाज़त करने लगे तो मासूमो  को तो मरना ही है ना!  सच है इस देश को भगवान् ही चला रहे है या सिर्फ भगवान् ही चला सकते है.

The Decision To Recall Ian Bell Is Saddest Day In History Of Cricket!

England Team was successful in registering a fantastic victory over the Indians in the second Test played at Trent Bridge. However, the “Bellgate” issue has stained the glorious victory. This match has added an infamous chapter in the history of cricket. A chapter which any cricket lover would like least to remember, after all, it highlights the decline in playing standards. The English Team has proved beyond  doubt that hypocrisy is integral part of Victorian culture.

The English Team resting on likes of Michael Paul Vaughan and Stuart Broad, firm believers and followers, of corrupt Vaseline Theory have the guts to remind about the spirit of the game. Why is the Indian team all the time expected to honour the sportsmanship? It’s most unfortunate that Ian Bell was allowed to play again after declared out. It’s not sportsmanship but it’s dictatorship of England team, British Media And British spectators.The glaring contradictions inherent in the approach of England Team and British Media would make any cricket lover bow down its head in shame. I mean the same team who few hours back shamelessly projected a dubious Vaseline theory making Stuart Broad check the bat of V V S Laxman was now cursing Indian team for making a valid appeal against Ian Bell!

The British Media, representative of truth and transparency, was busy engaged in making mockery of mannerism and sensibility of the Indian team. The British Media failed to remember that just few hours ago when English team made a flawed lbw appeal against Harbhajan Singh and eventually got his wicket, the English players had already lost all moral rights to preach others about sportsmanship. No wonder the British crowd too lost its cool and entered in booing, failing to realize that there was nothing wrong with India’s appeal. However, the teams like England and Australia when visit Indian subcontinent often clamour against crowd mismanagement, security, weather, food and lots of other silly concerns. This incident shows that people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. The way crowd treated with Indian players makes one feel that Indian players owe more to the interests of crowd than interests related with the game.

Ironically, a latest news report has rubbished the claims of Michael Paul Vaughan, which states that “the makers of the Hot Spot technology insisted it could not be nobbled by grease” .”We have done testing over the past two days in our office and can conclude that putting Vaseline on the side of a cricket bat has no discernible effect on our Hot Spot system. Maybe if you were able to apply 10 millimetres (a centimetre) of Vaseline on the side of the bat it would make a difference but we believe that this would be near impossible to achieve.”(BBG Sports). Coming back to the Ian Bell issue I must say that in no case he should have been recalled or I must say as per letter of the law he had no rights to be in the field again.

“Under Law 27.8, the reprieve shouldn’t have been allowed anyway, as any player must be recalled before they have left the field of play.”. I stand by the side of the Telegraph report which ,in fact, is one of the few newspapers which took a perfect stand on it. Hailing the decision of India to recall as “illogical” it clearly states that: “The spirit of cricket has its place but it was not being abused here. Bell, who’d played superbly to that point, should have remained dismissed, following his naive presumption that a leg-side flick from Eoin Morgan, which had been clumsily fielded at long leg by Praveen Kumar, had gone for 4.”

However, something more disastrous was in the cards. It’s shocking that England team’s coach Andy Flower and Captain Andrew Strauss visited India’s dressing-room during the tea break virtually compelling Mahendra Singh Dhoni to quash his appeal. The Indian captain instead of acting in tough way for the sake of game exhibited mindless “generosity” and gave way to the indecent demand all in name of sportsmanship. I wonder how does honouring the illegal wish honours the sportsmanship? I am really stunned the way British and Indian media both see it as a great gesture in league with real sportsmanship. Even some great names, who differ in their off-the record versions, are hailing the immaturity shown by M S Dhoni. How come asking the batsmen to bat again when he is really out constitutes sportsmanship?

Many in India are wrongly comparing Dhoni’s gesture to withdraw the appeal with Gundappa Viswanath’s gesture to recall Bob Taylor in 1980 Mumbai Test. However, one forgets that in Vishwanath’s case the batsmen was wrongly given out, and therefore, it was quite appropriate gesture on part of Vishhwanath to recall Taylor. That’s indeed within purview of sportsmanship. In Dhoni’s case not only the batsman was perfectly out but also the scope of making a recall had absolutely no chance since a new session came into effect. One needs to take into account the fact that the way Indian dressing room was visited by the coach and captain is a various serious issue. Once the third umpire has delivered his verdict what was the urgency on part of English team to see Bell back on the field?

I need to appreciate the stand of Ian Botham. Thank God there are some people still left who can speak in unambiguous terms! Botham in his column in The Mirror stated that” having been legitimately run out by the Indians with his mind on a huge round of applause and a cup of tea he had no right to expect to be batting after the break He was out I can understand why MS Dhoni withdrew his appeal and decided to go along with the spirit of the game but I would have had no problem if he had upheld it and sent a message about dopey cricket.” He then says that ” the game should be played fair but it should be played hard and if you don’t know the laws then find them out quickly because it is no place to wander about with your head in the clouds.”

Shane Warne stating that “Bell was at fault in the episode” rightly treats recall as one that would be “seen in the prism of politics”. However, the English media feels otherwise. Derek Pringle in The Telegraph conveys the impression that ultimately English team ‘won the moral debate” even after the Bell’s admission that he was indeed out if one goes by the letter of the law. Bell calls himself to be “naive” but how should we react to the crowd’s stupid behaviour and unusual gesture of Captain and the Coach of England who dared to visit the dressing room? Should they also now declare themselves to be “naive”?

In nutshell, it would be hard to forget this tragic episode which let the gentleman’s game succumb to double standards and hypocrisy at its best. I am still trying to find the answer to this question but the answer remains elusive. If Bell knew he was out then what made him come back on the crease in the post-Tea session?The anarchism that prevails in ordinary human life now seems to have entered in the world of cricket, giving rise to use of unfair means and cheap manipulation with the help of power and money.

It’s never an easy task to find appropriate words that come to honor the greatness of some people. I always face the shortage of expressions whenever I wish to say something about Kishore Kumar as earthly words, in my eyes, come to limit the achievements. However, the dilemma to miss the opportunity to say few things whenever time allows you to do that always haunts me and I am but just compelled to deal with unique aspects related with this man. This man was not just a mere entertainer -the nachaiyya gavaiyya soul ( mere singer and dancer).

He was a Gandharva in human form or a saint with a musical heart who lived with us to help us release our pains and frustrations and turn into better human beings with the help of notes of music.On his birth anniversary, I wish to take note of unheard aspects related with his life via him! I mean with the help of few recordings that captured him live in conversation with equally legendary figures. I think it would be the best way to shatter many myths associated with this great man.

Like in this rare video wherein I find Shammi Kapoor talking about Kishore Kumar. Though Kishore Kumar does not figure live in this video but Shammi Kapoor was one of the contemporaries who loved him lot. He was quite frustrated on not having any song to his credit in voice of Kishore. He got so identified with voice of Rafi that in his long career he didn’t get a single chance when Kishore could sing for him even as they walked together for decades. And that made Shammi restless as he loved this wonderful person very much. Remembering Kishore’s love for Madhubala he was bit sad. Shammi calls it a tragic affair but he came to shatter the falsehood that Kishore was bit casual towards Madhubala when she was seriously ill.

Shammi tells that this man did all what was humanly possible despite having tight singing schedules. Anyway, Shammi was the happiest person on earth when Kishore finally sang for him. The song turned out to be one of the biggest hits of its times and also one of the most notorious songs in history of Hindi movie songs. Remember “Saat Saheliya Khadi Khadi” from Vidhaata! Yes, this was the first song picturized on Shammi Kapoor in voice of Kishore and what a song it turned out to be!

Can you imagine Kishore in a long conversation with Lata? Yes, that’s true. These two legendary figures entered in a long conversation all in the name of interview. Kishore was so unhappy with media persons that he said if now ever he gave interview it would only be a possibility if Lata approaches him. A generosity on part of Lata made it possible for future generations to see two great people in a very intimate conversation.It was supposed to be an interview but it turned out to be more than an interview. After all, taking interviews was not Lata’s cup of tea! These two souls in name of interview revealed so many touching episodes as they laughed and smiled together. No wonder Lata went into stage of huge depression after death of Kishore Kumar.

In this so-called interview, Kishore remembers how he came to meet her for the first time in a very hilarious way when Lata misunderstood him for a man chasing him! They both went to a same studio in the same train together for two different purposes. Later the confusion got removed when it became clear that Kishore actually had an appointment with Khemchand Prakash and so he was in the studio to meet him. He held Khemchand Prakash in high esteem as this was the man who shaped his music career. Though K L Saigal was source of inspiration for both Lata and Kishore, Kishore finds the contribution of Khemchand Prakash a defining one.It was he who assured Ashok Kumar that this man had great singing talent. Ashok Kumar was bit apprehensive about the singing ability of Kishore in front of Khemchand Prakash telling him that he lacked the art of voice modulation!

In another part of this interview one finds him making candid confession before Lata that he lacked formal training in music and Lata in that regards stood miles ahead of him. One can notice the sense of embarrassment which grips Lata on this disclosure. Anyway, both felt that music has changed its face lot and singing is now no longer that beautiful affair but a strenuous affair. Kishore was really depressed over the badmouthing that portrayed a false image of his in eyes of his well wishers. Kishore made Lata uncomfortable once again when he asked her why do people enter in such loose talk? Though Lata dismissed such rumours associated with Kishore outrightly stating this was all bullshit but logical explanation came from the side of Kishore himself. Hitting the detractors below the belt  he stated that world belongs to mad people devoid of ethics of any sorts! Kishore says that people hail him as a person not in his senses but he feels that world has gone to the dogs!

True, many people accuse him of money oriented but I am pretty confused as the man who had to do so many charity shows to get rid of income tax burdens could never be a money conscious soul. In fact, look at the way he suggests Lata to stop singing and do stage shows for charity’s sake. Can this ever come out from heart of money conscious soul? At least, it’s impossible in my eyes. Anyway, let me discuss his association with a towering figure in the world of Hindi film music S D Burman. A person who played a monumental role in life of Kishore. Kishore reciprocated the kind gestures of this great man by hailing him as mentor and father figure. Nobody saw tears in eyes of lively Kishore lost in laughs all the times but the day S D Burman passed away many noticed tears in his eyes. Recalling the same experience live he says that it appeared to him as he sat near his dead body that this man would just wake up and ask him to sing! One is really touched the way Kishore unfolds his association with S D Burman.

This was the man who was conscious of Kishore the way a father is conscious of a pretty naughty child. In fact, SD Burman was himself a child hearted figure. So both enjoyed a great chemistry.Kishore remembering S D Burman says that he became hugely upset with him when he started doing so many concerts, fearing that it would deteriorate the quality of his vocal chords. He warned Kishore that if he did not stop doing concerts it would be impossible for him to give him singing assignments.

Revealing the innocence of S D Burman he tells us that when he refused to participate in practice sessions, S D Burman invited him to share food with him at his home. After enjoying great food as he was about to leave, S D Burman locked the doors and get him involved in the rigorous practice sessions. S D Burman at odd hours of night used to give rings to Kishore mainly to ensure that all is well with his vocal chords! Once as he was about to leave for important recording, he noticed S D Burman coming towards him and taking him to a long drive to an open area full of greenery. S D Burman asking him to run in open fields along with him made Kishore sing some songs for him at the end of running session!! No wonder he was in tears when S D Burman became part of the stars.

Ending this article with prophetic words he said to Lata. This man did not live for long after he said that. I notice that this great man like all exceptional soul was eager to merge in supreme consciousness. He told Lata that it’s now time to bid adieu to this temporary home as it’s good for artists that they should quit the world once they have achieved all. It’s not good that they should leave the world, when the world starts treating them with disdain! This man I find left the world after this disclosure. However, he lives in our memories in an eternal way. Such people never die.
